How will we stop Zika?

Unless we act, the Zika epidemic could spin out of control.

As the virus spreads throughout Latin America, millions of people are expected to be infected by next year. Nearly 900 cases are already reported in the United States, including 94 in Florida. In the face of an emerging pandemic, we cannot wait to take action.

Try telling that to the Republicans in Congress. President Obama proposed bold action to fight Zika, requesting $1.9 billion from Congress to find a vaccine and control the spread of the disease. But GOP leaders are dragging their feet, playing games, and arguing about irrelevant details. That’s exactly what we don’t need.

I’m outraged. Most Americans live in areas where the Zika virus might spread – and we still don’t have a cure or vaccine to counter the disease. Congress must take action now to fund research and programs to stop this devastating disease – and the Republicans’ inaction puts us all in danger.

This issue is a no-brainer. If it were me, I’d approve the President’s plan right away. With your support, I’ll break through the gridlock in Congress and do everything I can to keep Americans safe from infectious diseases like Zika.
